Black History Month is about honouring the enormous contributions that Black people have made, and continue to make, in all sectors of society. It is about celebrating resilience, innovation, and determination to work towards a more inclusive and diverse Canada—a Canada in which everyone has every opportunity to flourish.
This year the Halifax Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the Federation of African Canadian Economics (FACE) to discuss the barriers that face Black entrepreneurs today and the resources that are available to them. FACE is a national and bilingual Black-led non-profit organization focused on providing resources and information to the Black community across canada with the aim of accelerating wealth creation for Canadian of African descent.
MEET YOUR PRESENTER:
Tiffany Callender is a community developer and social entrepreneur. She has spent 16 years developing and implementing community-based programs that support Montreal’s Black community in the non-profit sector. Under her leadership as the Director of one of Quebec’s oldest Black organizations, she successfully secured 8.3 million $ in support of multiple initiatives. She was recognized, in 2020, by MIPAD as one of the 100 most influential people of African descent under 40.
In 2021, Tiffany is the co-founder of the Federation of African Canadian Economics (FACE) of which she is today the CEO. Founded by a coalition of Canadian Black business support organizations, FACE co-developed with the Government of Canada the historic Black Entrepreneurship Program and now administers the $160 million Black Entrepreneurship Loan Fund.
Tiffany has submitted recommendations for policy change to public institutions, notably as a signatory of Montreal’s consultation on racism and systemic discrimination as well as Quebec’s Laurent Commission regarding the overrepresentation of Black children in the Youth Protection. She also regularly gives DEI training classes and acts as an analyst on CJAD 800.
