The future belongs to the bold. Canada needs more courage.

As the country approaches its 150th anniversary, Canada finds itself at a challenging tipping point. Nearly a decade after the Great Recession, our economy is stagnant and our position as a global leader is poised to diminish. After several years of studying Canada's economy, Deloitte believes that at the root of these challenges, and the key to overcoming them, is courage. Today, only one in 10 Canadian companies can be considered truly courageous. Fortunately, for many more, courage is within reach.

The reality is that courage makes a difference. Courageous companies grow faster, create jobs and pursue growth more deliberately. We need more companies willing to take risks, be bold and do what's right. The good news? If Canada's business leaders take action now and commit to cultivating courage in their organizations, our country's potential is limitless. If Canada's business leaders take action now and commit to cultivating courage in their organizations, our country's - and our province's -- potential is limitless.

Lisa Drader-Murphy, Designer & President

Canadian designer Lisa Drader-Murphy is the president and owner of the Lisa Drader-Murphy fashion house, published writer, and sought-after professional public speaker. A Progress Club Women of Excellence award-winner in the category of innovator/entrepreneur, Drader-Murphy was named Atlantic Business Magazine?s Top 50 CEO Awards in 2016.

Her first independent label, Turbine, was established in Calgary in January of 1997 and a second store opened shortly after at The Eau Claire Market on Prince's Island Park. In 1998, with a 3rd store slated for Banff, an opportunity presented itself to designer/owner Lisa Drader-Murphy to move her young family to beautiful Nova Scotia and the temptation to enjoy a slower pace and family-friendly lifestyle was too great to resist.

Her corporation is a vertical operation and is unique in that it is one of few remaining in Canada that houses the design, cutting, production, and retail of her collections - all from her privately run production and retail facilities.  In spite of the severe downturn in the retail industry, locally and across Canada over the past few years, Lisa Drader-Murphy has continued to experience growth, recently opening store #5 in Toronto and appearing on The Shopping Channel, subsequently being offered her own show.
