They’ll be sharing their expertise on what our tourism and hospitality members can do to help guide their business through this “new normal”, offer ways to market their business to inspire local tourism, and provide insight on how to continue planning for the unknowns of the future.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:
Paulette Cormier, Assistant Professor and Tourism Program Coordinator for the Department of Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality Management, MSVU
Paulette is an Assistant Professor and the Tourism Program Coordinator for the Department of Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality Management at Mount Saint Vincent University. She is currently studying courses in the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program at Athabasca University and holds a Master of Arts in Education, Graduate Studies in Lifelong Learning, a Bachelor of Science in Human Ecology, and a certificate in Management Development for Women.
Paulette has experience working as a Lecturer and Senior Lab Instructor in the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management and has taught labs in the Department of Applied Human Nutrition. Additionally, she has work experience in the areas of food service, hospitality, and fitness and is an instructor for various managerial level food safety courses.
Paulette’s research interest focuses on workplace learning in Tourism and Hospitality Management and on student engagement. She has worked on projects focusing on the workplace learning of Chefs, Human Resource Management devolution in the hotel industry, Tripadvisor reviews and owner responses in the Bed-and-Breakfast sector in Nova Scotia, and the Learning Passport Program as a student engagement initiative. She is currently working on a research project focusing on the impact of COVID-19 on the food and beverage industry.
Maria Matthews, Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality Management, MSVU
Maria is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality Management at Mount Saint Vincent University. She is completing her Ph.D. at AIB and holds a Master of Business Administration (Tourism and Hospitality Management) as well as a Bachelor of Tourism Management (Hons).
Maria has 10 years experience working as a lecturer at Memorial University and has been teaching at the Mount in the Department of Business Administration and Tourism and Hospitality since 2015. She has 25 years extensive business and tourism industry experience in the areas of Tour Operation, Destination Management, Airline and Hotel Management and has served on numerous board of directors in various roles over the years.
Maria's research interest focuses on tourism technology, tourism marketing, Tourism funding models, Destination development and private and public tourism partnership models.
Dr. Candace Blayney, Associate Professor, MSVU
Dr. Candace Blayney is an Associate Professor at Mount Saint Vincent University. Before her academic career she was with a large international hotel group as Training Manager and Human Resources Director.
Her main areas of research include human resources in the hotel industry namely career progression, women in management issues and management competencies. She is a member of international, national and regional tourism and hotel associations.
