The Halifax Chamber is pleased to offer a FREE 10 week, educational program to help grow your business. This program is offered to businesses, managers, and employees at zero cost. Invest your time into learning the skills, and the resources available to benefit your business, managers or employees.


Essentials Skills to Grow a Small Business

 By the end of the course, you will be able to generate and assess options on how to grow your small business profitably and create a long-term plan to handle competitive challenges and market opportunities.
The course activities are hands-on as you learn the skills to systematically, using the proprietary DAPP process, to create a strategic plan to grow your business, increase profitability, and start pursuing your goals.


The program entails:


  • Learn the four ways to grow a business and assess which are right for you

  • Use creativity tools to generate options to expand your business

  • Find growth opportunities through customer and market insights


  • Use research to test a market

  • Create business cases to assess opportunities to make the best profitable decisions for your organization

  • Explore capital funding options for business expansion

  • Pricing strategies


  • Create an action plan for the product, service, or market expansion

  • Create a plan-on-a-poster to help you keep on track


  • Create key market messages for the new product/service or new target market

  • Practice sales skills to close more sales 

  • Hiring techniques to get the staff that will enable your growth efforts

About The Trainer

Bonnie O’Toole, MBA, is the CEO of Market Pursuits Inc.  She is a business professional with a 25+ year performance track record in leadership, marketing, financial management, customer service, sales, process improvement, project management, strategy, planning, and senior executive advisor roles.


She currently specializes in helping companies grow and become more profitable through training, coaching and consulting; and has delivered over 100 40-hour training sessions in the last seven years (1000 participants, 4000 hours of training).  She has helped her clients: tap into their target markets with better marketing, improve profitability and cash flow, engage their workforce, get things done, improve communications, create leaders, develop strategy, and get funding.


As a lifelong learner, she holds a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA), a bachelor’s degree in Science, three diplomas, two master certificates, and 22 certificates.  Of those certificates, 11 are instructor certificates through the Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education.
