Matt Saunders, a partner in Cox & Palmer?s Halifax Office, is a unique leader in privacy law and data security. Matt is an experienced Certified Information Privacy Professional/Canada (CIPP/C) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), and he works closely with clients to provide responsive and comprehensive advice regarding data breaches, cyber claims, and privacy-related litigation.
Matt has a wide-ranging data privacy and commercial litigation practice, acting for local, national, and international clients in industries such as insurance, technology, health care, real estate, and transportation. His practice involves rapidly responding to cyber incidents, including ransomware attacks, data breaches, and complex access to information matters. He is skilled in oral advocacy and resolving complex disputes. Matt has appeared before the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal, the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, and all levels of court in Ontario.
Karen provides senior counsel and strategic advice for a wide range of organizations as they navigate complex and challenging files. Karen specializes in strategic communication planning; emergency and crisis communication; issues and reputation management; and stakeholder, government and media relations. As a trusted partner, she works with organizations to effectively manage issues like cyber security, harassment, leadership transitions and organizational change. At NATIONAL, she leads the Canadian crisis communications practice and is a key member of the cyber security team. She is a sought after speaker and trainer throughout the Atlantic region, who prides herself on working collaboratively to build effective reputation and brand strategies.
Karen also leads the AVENIR Global Crisis Sector team and holds a Bachelor of Public Relations from Mount Saint Vincent University and a Master of Business Administration from Saint Mary?s University. She is Board Chair of the Maritimes Energy Association and a Board Director with the Offshore Energy Research Association.
