Business Support Series: Lower the Barriers - An Introduction to Digital Accessibility
Business Support Series
The Business Support Webinar Series will explore timely topics with industry experts to provide key insights and answers on the best ways to succeed as a business. Hosted by the Halifax Chamber of Commerce, this series will feature a wide range of topics on how to survive and thrive.
The first point of contact for many people, who want to know more about your business or organization, is often a website, video, and/or document. Making these digital materials accessible for people with disabilities is important. However, it is even more crucial today, because many businesses have to rely on the digital realm, due to COVID-19 restrictions.
One in three Nova Scotians identifies as having at least one disability. These current, and potential, customers with disabilities need accessible digital materials, such as websites, documents, audio, video, etc. Plus, the Nova Scotia government has pledged to make the province accessible by 2030, through its Accessibility Act.
This webinar will provide basic information to start the journey of lowering online barriers. It will focus on:
- Why Accessibility is Important
- Nova Scotia’s Digital Accessibility Related Legislation and Impact
- The Range of Diverse Users and Different Technologies
- How People Are Accessing Your Digital Materials (with live demos of technologies)
No technical expertise is required, just an interest in the subject.
