As a first-generation immigrant from Iran, Kourosh has overcome many barriers throughout his entrepreneurial career, the last of which has been owning a restaurant through a pandemic. However, Kourosh’s values-based approach to entrepreneurship has helped him build strong bonds with community groups and organizations, provide a supporting environment for the employees, and attract the best talent in the culinary scene. Given Kourosh’s track record in community consultation and advocacy, he involves employees and to a large extend the community in defining a higher vision for the restaurant that serves as an anchor to empower the culinary scene beyond what is possible by a single restaurant alone. The latest community-empowering project led by Kourosh is the Secret Garden series that has so far brought together 11 chefs, 15 aspiring cooks and over 350 people together at various events. Such strong community bond has helped Kourosh build a resilient restaurant through a pandemic
