Advising the Wise. Owen Sagness and Colin Mason will share their assessment and the associated recommendations of a study done by the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC). This original research examined a sample from the BDC database of 28,000 medium sized Canadian firms (SMEs) and the resulting effectiveness of using an advisory board to increase their productivity & profitability.
An astounding 86% of the firms with advisory boards, when contacted, reported that the advice adopted from their boards had a significant positive impact on their company. No surprise given the measured increases in sales growth for those firms.
On conclusion of the study, BDC commented that it was puzzling to them why only 6% of Canadian SME?s use an Advisory Board, when the numbers show conclusively what a difference in bottom-line results were achieved by those firms who chose to utilize such a source of business wisdom.
