Join us for an afternoon of education and reflection to expand your understanding and appreciation for honoring First Nations, Inuit and Métis Survivors.
Shannon Monk of Sakatay Global will lead us in what is known as the Blanket Exercise. Based on Indigenous methodologies, the goal is to build understanding about our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by walking through pre-contact, treaty-making, colonization and resistance.
Everyone is actively involved as they step onto blankets that represent the land, and into the role of First Nations, Inuit and later Métis peoples. By engaging on an emotional and intellectual level, the Blanket Exercise effectively educates and increases empathy.
Beginning at 12pm the duration of the exercise is approximately 3.5hrs. There will be food served during the event.
