About Us
Imhotep’s Legacy Academy (ILA) is a dynamic university-community partnership that empowers Grades 6–12 students of African heritage in Nova Scotia to reach their full academic and personal potential. By bringing together university and college students, faculty, and community leaders, ILA creates a powerful support system focused on closing the achievement gap and boosting student success.
Through a unique blend of real-world learning projects, tutoring, and leadership development, ILA inspires students to explore their abilities, build skills, and develop the confidence needed to thrive in both school and life. With programming across half of Nova Scotia’s regional school boards, the Academy equips post-secondary students with the tools and training to become mentors and role models—guiding younger learners toward self-confidence, self-discipline, and the mastery of concepts related to scientific, technical, engineering, and mathematic (STEM) fields.
By connecting education with culture, community, and innovation, ILA not only fosters academic growth but also helps shape the next generation of STEM leaders and changemakers.
