SUMMARY:VIBRANT COMMUNITY - BLANKET EXERCISE
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an afternoon of education and reflection to expand your understanding and appreciation for honoring First Nations\, Inuit and M tis Survivors. \n\n\n\nShannon Monk of Sakatay Global will lead us in what is known as the Blanket Exercise. Based on Indigenous methodologies\, the goal is to build understanding about our shared history as Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada by walking through pre-contact\, treaty-making\, colonization and resistance.\n\n\n\nEveryone is actively involved as they step onto blankets that represent the land\, and into the role of First Nations\, Inuit and later M tis peoples. By engaging on an emotional and intellectual level\, the Blanket Exercise effectively educates and increases empathy. \n\n\n\nBeginning at 12pm the duration of the exercise is approximately 3.5hrs. There will be food served during the event.\n\n \nSpots are limited\, and we will be treating on a first come\, first served basis. \n\nTo register for the event\, sign up for the waitlist by clicking on Register. \n\nThe prompt will say\, "the event is full\, would you like to add your name to the waiting list?" Click on "Yes Please" \n\n \n\n\nCOVID-19 Event Protocol for Guests\n\n\n All event attendees are required to show proof of double vaccination\n Stay home if you are feeling unwell. \n \n Stay home if you have been in contact with someone who has\, or is suspected to have COVID-19. \n \n \n As this is an indoor event\, physical distancing of 2 meters will be encouraged.\n \n \n Guests must sanitize their hands with the provided sanitizer before entering the event space.\n \n \n Guests will be screened upon arrival\, this includes a COVID-19 questionnaire.\n \n \n Practice good respiratory etiquette by covering coughs and sneezes with a tissue. If you don't have a tissue\, cough and sneeze into your elbow\, not your hand.\n \n\n\nWhat We Are Doing to Protect You \n\n\n \n We will be collecting names and phone numbers for every attendee in case there is a need for contact tracing. These records will be kept for 30 days\, and then destroyed. \n \n \n Screening guests for symptoms of covid-19.\n \n Ensuring that all areas of the venue are thoroughly disinfected before and during the event\, with a focus on high touch areas like railings\, tables\, and payment machines.
