DESCRIPTION:Canadian and Global Economic Developments\n\n\n\nThe Bank of Canada Deputy Governor Lawrence Schembri will discuss Canadian and global economic developments and how they were taken into account in the September interest rate decision.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDeputy Governor Lawrence Schembri\n\nBank of Canada \n\nLawrence Schembri became Deputy Governor of the Bank of Canada in 2013. In this role\, he oversees the Bank's analysis of domestic economic developments and shares responsibility for setting monetary policy in Canada.\n\n \n\nMr. Schembri first came to the Bank in 1997 as a visiting Research Advisor\, on sabbatical from his post as associate professor of economics at Carleton University. He joined the Bank permanently in 2001 and became Chief of the International Economic Analysis Department four years later. In 2010\, Mr. Schembri was named Advisor to the Governor a position he held until his current appointment.\n\n \n\nMr. Schembri holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto\, a Master's in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science\, and a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His published research has focused on exchange rates and monetary policy in open economies\, the international monetary system and financial stability.\n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLawrence Schembri est devenu sous-gouverneur   la Banque du Canada en 2013. Dans le cadre de ses fonctions\, il surveille les analyses que fait la Banque de l' volution de l' conomie canadienne et partage la responsabilit  des d cisions touchant la formulation de la politique mon taire au pays.\n\n\n\nM. Schembri est entr    la Banque pour la premi re fois en 1997\, en qualit  de conseiller en recherches invit . Il  tait alors en cong  sabbatique de son poste de professeur agr g  d' conomie   l'Universit  Carleton. Il a par la suite int gr  la Banque de fa on permanente en 2001\, et a  t  promu\, quatre ans plus tard\, chef du d partement des Analyses de l' conomie internationale. En 2010\, il a  t  nomm  conseiller du gouverneur\, poste qu'il occupait encore au moment de sa nomination.\n\n\n\nM. Schembri est titulaire d'un baccalaur at en commerce de l'Universit  de Toronto\, d'une ma trise en  conomie de la London School of Economics and Political Science et d'un doctorat en  conomie du Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Les travaux de recherche qu'il a publi s portent surtout sur les r gimes de change et la politique mon taire en  conomie ouverte\, le syst me mon taire international et la stabilit  financi re.
