In this role\, he oversees the Bank's analysis of domestic economic developments and shares responsibility for setting monetary policy in Canada.\n\n \n\nMr. Schembri first came to the Bank in 1997 as a visiting Research Advisor\, on sabbatical from his post as associate professor of economics at Carleton University. He joined the Bank permanently in 2001 and became Chief of the International Economic Analysis Department four years later. In 2010\, Mr. Schembri was named Advisor to the Governor a position he held until his current appointment.\n\n \n\nMr. Schembri holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Toronto\, a Master's in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science\, and a PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
