DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nUniversities: Drivers of our Economy!\n\n\n\n \n\nUniversities are a powerful contributor to the region's economic prosperity\, social and cultural development\, talent attraction and retention\, productivity and competitiveness.\n\n\n\nHear from Dianne Taylor-Gearing\, President of NSCAD\, and Kent MacDonald\, President of StFX University as they address the economic importance and value of universities to Nova Scotians\, both at a macro (provincial impacts) and micro (direct and indirect contributions to regional/local economies) level.  \n\n \n\nSpecifically: \n\n \n\nA) At a macro/provincial level: the presentation will illustrate how universities are a major generator of export revenues (domestic and international enrollments and attraction of research funding) within the context of the ONE NS Report and its stretch goals of inter-provincial migration\, retention of international students and international migration\, value of exports\, post-secondary education training and R&D contributions.  \n\n \n\nB) At a micro/local level: the presentation will illustrate  direct and indirect fiscal\, social and cultural benefits delivered within regional/local economies. \n\n \n\n\n\n \n\nDianne Taylor-Gearing \n\nPresident of NSCAD\,\n\nThe current Chair of the Council of Nova Scotia University Presidents (CONSUP)\n\n\n\nLeading with international experience\, wisdom and vision with the ability to execute to achieve transformational and impactful change\, resulting in raised expectations\, higher standards\, outcomes and institutional acclaim Professor Dianne Taylor-Gearing has taken a dynamic and strategic leadership role at several international prestigious arts institutions. \n\n\n\nStudent achievement and success are at the heart of her passionate commitment to creative arts education\, research and practice through a collaborative and inclusive approach to provide opportunities for all to ignite their curiosity and reach their creative potential.\n\n\n\nShe serves as Chair of the Council of Nova Scotia University Presidents (CONSUP)\; EduNova Board Chair\; Director and Secretary to the Board of the Nova Scotia Research and Innovation Trust (NSRIT)\; Universities Canada Board Governance  Committee\; and a member of the Immigrant Services Association of Nova Scotia (ISANS) Board. Internationally she serves as Treasurer to the Board of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (IACAD).\n\n\n\nA graduate of the Slade School of Fine Art and Harvard Business School Dianne was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts\, London in 1990. \n\n\n\nShe was appointed President at NSCAD University in April 2014.\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\nDr. Kent MacDonald\n\nPresident of StFX University\,\n\nIncoming Chair of the Council of Nova Scotia University Presidents (CONSUP)\n\nDr. Kent MacDonald is the 18th President and Vice Chancellor of StFX University and a highly regarded leader in Canada's post-secondary system. Over the past two decades\, Dr. MacDonald has become well known for his highly personal and authentic style of leadership and has spoken to audiences around the world including Asia\, the Middle East\, Europe\, and across North America. Professor MacDonald's interest is higher education leadership and he proudly holds two degrees from StFX University. Dr. MacDonald has also held senior leadership positions in the private and the not-for-profit sectors\, has served on a variety of public and private boards and is a proud educator who has worked in the elementary\, secondary and post-secondary systems in Canada and New Zealand.
